Hydrotherapy

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a type of physiotherapy using water. The water's buoyancy, resistance, pressure & warmth enable dogs to exercise with low impact & low weight bearing on the joints, to enhance strength, mobility, coordination & overall fitness.

Hydrotherapy can benefit dogs recovering from surgery or injuries, help manage arthritis, pain & swelling, as well as aiding weight loss.

Cats can also benefit from hydrotherapy after injury, illness or surgery. Please contact us to discuss whether hydrotherapy could be suitable for your cat.

How can hydrotherapy help?

Just like us, animals can benefit from hydrotherapy and rehabilitation following injury, illness or surgery.

Hydrotherapy can help with:

  • Bone, muscle, tendon or ligament injuries

  • Joint problems such as arthritis, swelling and stiffness

  • Recovery following surgery

  • Neurological and spinal conditions

  • Pain management and improved mobility

  • Weight management and reduced fitness

  • Age-related mobility problems

  • Improving strength, coordination and overall fitness

  • Supporting gradual rehabilitation with reduced weight bearing on joints

Our hydrotherapy treatments

4 Point Physio offers two types of hydrotherapy.

Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual animal, their condition, and rehabilitation needs, whether they are recovering from surgery, managing a long-term condition or improving their mobility and fitness.

Pool Based Swimming

Our purpose built canine pool is a warm 28 degrees, spacious, easily accessible via a ramp & has jets for increasing resistance.

Dogs are always accompanied by a physio in the water & wear a buoyancy jacket or harness.

PH & Chlorine levels are tested and adjusted daily to keep the water clean & safe. Showering & fresh towels are offered to all dogs after their session.

Underwater Treadmill

Our state of the art underwater treadmill allows water depth, speed & incline to be individually adjusted.

This allows for very specific & controlled rehabilitation to help dogs get back their normal movement patterns (gait).

Ideal for nervous dogs that may be reluctant or unable to swim. Great for after surgery or recent injuries, when gradual & gentle rehab is needed.
